Travel Advisory
Canada Day and U.S. Independence Day
(Wednesday, June 27, 2012)
Pembina, N.D. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reminding both Americans and Canadians planning trips across the border into the United States during the upcoming holiday weekend to make sure they have proper documents and to anticipate heavy traffic.
CBP strongly encourages travelers to obtain a radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled travel document such as a U.S. Passport Card, Enhanced Driver’s License/Enhanced Identification Card or Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST/EXPRES) to expedite their entry and make crossing the border more efficient.
Additionally, all travelers are reminded of a few simple steps they can employ to cross the border. Plan your trip and allow extra time for crossing the border. Review the “Know Before You Go” tip sheet. ( www.cbp.gov ) Wait times for the ports of International Falls, Minnesota and Pembina, North Dakota can be monitored at Border Wait Times. ( apps.cbp.gov/bwt/ ) Avoid peak travel times when at all possible. The heaviest traffic periods are typically between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
CBP officials continually monitor traffic and border crossing times at area ports of entry and fully staff all inspection lanes during peak periods.

**Asterisk denotes death involving a police officer or a member of the military serving in that capacity. Some items may be from notirex.com, lapoliciaca.com or historiasdelnarco.com. Some incidents of violence may not be included here due to the large number of death reports.

VERACRUZ, VERACRUZ
At least two people were executed Saturday night when an unknown number of gunmen entered a home. There were at least 8 rounds fired
according to neighbors.
MEXICO
In various states of the country, police found the remains of at least 32 people. The remains of 16 mutilated bodies were found in an abandoned truck in the parking lot of a supermarket, along with a narco message. In Lerdo de Tejada, Veracruz, nine bodies were discovered in three clandestine narco graves. An anonymous tip led Mexican Marines and the Attorney’s General’s office to the sites. Only bones were found, thus presumed the bodies had been there for months.
MEXICO
Per the attorney for two brothers arrested by Mexican Marines, the U.S. DEA pressured one of them to sign a statement saying he was the son of El Chapo. The agent said that after the election, the issue would be clarified that he really was not.
GOMEZ PALACIO, DURANGO
Government officials from the Attorney General’s office, traveling in an official vehicle between here and Jabonoso were attacked, killing two and leaving another gravely wound and in hospital.
BUENAVISTA, MICHOACAN
The bodies of five people, three men, one maimed on his arm, and two women, one of them beheaded and eight months pregnant, were killed by the coup de grace and left in black bags on the bridge Piedra Blanca A message was left by being stuck into the chest of one with a knife.
MEOQUI, CHIHUAHUA
The inhabitants of the town of Meoqui, located south of Chihuahua, a community characterized in the past by its tranquility, now live in fear and pain generated by drug violence. In 2012, there have been 74 executions. The latest murder was that of the Ministerial Police Commander of Delicias, Rafael Romero Carrasco, who lived in Meoqui. In January six people were victimized and there were three clashes between criminal groups. One victim was a police officer of the municipality of Rosales who was in Meoqui. That month there were also two shootings. On January 5 occurred a clash that left cars and houses shot. On 30 January, in the nearby town of Lazaro Cardenas, at the end of Mass in the church, the inhabitants were moments of terror during a shootout that left no victims. In February, 12 people were killed violently. Among the victims were merchants, mechanics, maquiladora employees and students. In March, a traffic policeman and a woman were among the 15 executed that month. On May 23 came a clash that left several buildings damaged, including the fire station. In this situation of violence, the authorities decided to suspend Meoqui traditional fairs of San Pedro and San Pablo; only be three days of festivities in the courtyard of City Hall.
APAXTLA CASTREJON, GUERRERO
Over the weekend, six persons were executed during shootouts between rival groups, presumably the LFM, Knights Templar and groups aligned with them.
BENITO JUAREZ SUSUPUATO, MICHOACÁN
At about 2 pm on Sunday, the municipal police station here were ambushed. The assistant chief was killed, and four were wounded.
GUERRERO
The Governor of Guerrero has asked for increased taxes to provide greater security and to help the widows of 500 taxi drivers killed over 2 years. It has caused 18,000 to stop working out of fear, and carriers are losing money due to taxis not working 24 hours a day. They are now working 6 am to 9 pm.
MORELOS
Ten people, 6 women and 4 men, were executed Monday around the state.
COAHUILA*
On Sunday, seven people were executed and one was kidnapped. One of the victims was a Torreon police officer killed while on patrol by an ambush.
BOCA DEL RIO, VERACRUZ
Commander Michael Lopez, Municipal Police Chief here, was kidnapped by gunmen in 3 vehicles. He was traveling to purchase uniforms for his subordinates. His two body guards were subdued and he was taken.
TLACOJALPAN, VERACRUZ
Sunday night, the mayor here was kidnapped from her home. The family does not want police intervention. The kidnappers are asking for 2 million pesos (US $144371.00) for her return. (Often these victims are killed even when the money is paid.)
DURANGO, DURANGO
The week began with the execution of 5 people. The driver of a taxi was found burned to death on the outskirts of the capital. Four others were found in different locations around the state on Monday.
