This message reminds U.S. citizens in Guyana to exercise caution when in public due to violent protests in Linden and ongoing protests in Georgetown in response to a rise in electricity rates. The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens in Guyana to limit your movement in and around Georgetown and Linden and to avoid unnecessary travel throughout the country. Because of the continuing possibility of violence, the Embassy has prohibited U.S. government employees from official and non-official travel to Linden and on the Linden highway.
The recent protests in Linden have resulted in property damage and loss of life. Protests in Georgetown and Linden are ongoing and may spread to other locations.
The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid large public gatherings. Be aware of traffic delays and increased pedestrian presence in the potential problem areas listed above. Note that this list of problem areas is not comprehensive, and you should exercise caution throughout Guyana.
Even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can become violent and unpredictable. You should avoid them if at all possible. Be alert and aware of your surroundings and pay attention to what the local news media has to say.

PIEDRAS NEGRAS, COAHUILA
The Mexican military found an 8 month old jaguar during an operation on Saturday. The jaguar wore a collar and a plate with the name Kiro. Jaguar’s are an endangered species. It has been taken to the Desert Zoo in Saltillo.
MONTERREY, NUEVO LEÓN
At about 4 pm on Saturday, a group of gunmen drove into the parking lot of the Casino Revolution. They exited two vehicles they were in and opened fire with machine guns against various vehicles and threw a grenade which failed to detonate. Vehicles were damaged, but there were no injuries. Dozens of shell casings from AK47’s and AR15’s were found. The casino is the largest of the 63 casinos in Monterrey, and was previously attacked in April 2011. This attack happened almost a year after the attack on the Casino Royale which killed 52 people.
MEXICO, DISTRITO FEDERAL
José Adalid Vaca Sáenz aka: José Adalid Morales Vaca, alias ” El Tinaco”, and the chief operating officer of La Familia cartel was arrested by federal police. Intelligence indicates he was responsible for marijuana trafficking into the U.S. through Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

Benito Armando Espinosa, head of investigations of the Federal Police,
has identified the Gulf, La Familia Michoacan (LFM), La Borredora cartels as being involved in kidnappings as a major source of revenue. In Tamaulipas and Veracruz, it is primarily Los Zetas and the Gulf cartel. In Michoacan and part of the State of Mexico, it is the LFM cartel. The group called La Familia and La Borredora operate in Guerrero, which includes Acapulco
CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO
Through intelligence and covert operations, Mexican Marines have arrested Ventura Córdoba Arquimero, alias “El Ventura”, as the head of Los Zetas for the hotel zone of this city. When arrested, he tried to bribe his captors with cash and 2 luxury cars. The investigation began in May with the capture of his driver, Nicolás Hernández Guzmán, alias El Moruso. The driver was in possession of cocaine and marijuana, and confessed that a group of taxi drivers distributed drugs for Los Zetas in the hotel zone. El Ventura confessed to running the group of dealers, and named the local business used to launder their income, in which drug sales were listed as clothing sales.
HUEJOTZINGO, PUEBLA, MEXICO
The Mexican Marines announced the capture of Mauricio Guizar Cárdenas, alias “El Amarillo”, leader of “Los Zetas” in southeastern Mexico, and specifically the states of Tabasco, Veracruz, Chiapas, Campeche and Quintana Roo. The arrest happened in a hotel where they also found a 66 mm anti-tank rocket, 20 grenades, a submachine gun, a pistol and 22 rounds of 357 ammunition .
MEXICO CITY, DISTRITO FEDERAL
Jesús Rosas Ibarra “El Mustang”, the alleged financial operator for Los Zetas was arrested as a result of the capture William de Jesús Torres Solórzanio “El W”, in Puebla, the presumed head of drug transfer from the south to the north for the cartel. When arrested, El Mustang had $730, 890 U.S., a a 10mm pistol, fragmentation grenade, bank cards and communications equipment and in addition to these articles, a luxury compact car. Two accomplices in another vehicle had 880 thousand U.S. dollars, a handgun and a grenade.
